Megan Rooney, M.Ed

Rooney leads our plain language document translation team and has developed our plain language trainings. She focuses on offering clear guidelines for creating and revising documents and specific examples of how to improve your organization’s materials. She prefers hands-on activities to teach you plain language skills.

Courtney Jones, MPH

Jones oversees the coordination and evaluation of our trainings and works as a plain language editor. She developed our health literacy awareness trainings. Jones provides a personal and thoughtful perspective of health literacy and can relate it to challenges in your organization. 

Sam Pettyjohn, MPH

Pettyjohn oversees the clinical assessment team and works as a plain language editor. He has a keen focus on health literacy as it relates to graphics, signage and health system navigation.  He likes to engage with his audience and hear personal examples of health literacy.

Becky Dawson
Dawson has more than 20 years of experience organizing and conducting educational trainings within the health care sector. As health education coordinator for Northeast Missouri Area Health Education Center (NEMO AHEC) in Kirksville, she delivers our trainings in the northeast part of the state.

Karen Leonard, MSN
Leonard worked 25 years as a nurse in St. Louis before becoming a teacher at the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Nursing. Her work with various non-profit agencies, schools and clinics gives her a diverse and in-depth perspective of health literacy. Her style is friendly and fun.

Gwen Ratermann
Director of Partnerships and Initiatives

Ratermann leads our community partnership efforts. She can bring specific examples of work going on throughout the state through her travels and likes to engage her audience in a lively discussion of health literacy.
