There’s a mismatch between what it takes to use health care and the health literacy skills we have. This problem is system-wide, and it affects all of us at some point in our lives.
We believe we can fix this problem with clear, simple communication.
Health literacy is our ability to use health information and services in ways that lead to positive health outcomes. When we make health care easier for people to understand, we can save lives, save money, and make it easier to get care.
Let's work together to help people make good health decisions every day. Learn more about Our Services.

Health Literacy Missouri, or HLM, is a nonprofit communications team that specializes in clear health communications. We're really interested in health literacy. It’s complex and crucial and fascinating and, well, we could go on and on. But what really gets us going is helping our partner health organizations communicate better with their clients. When we work together, we’re helping all sorts of different people make good health decisions—and that makes us happy.
Our team is enthusiastic and interdisciplinary by design. That’s how we’ve become national thought leaders in health literacy and experts in health communications, social marketing, public health, journalism, psychology, and social work. Most of all, we're eager to show you what we can do.
We believe health literacy can be fun. Need proof? Watch the first installment of our latest video series, #HealthcareHacks, starring HLM staffers Candra, Clayton, and Phil.
Sure, we like our awards. But we like improving lives a lot more. By working closely with our partners, we have helped make health information and services more accessible to more people. Here are a few examples of work we're especially proud of.
